How is science used in a hairdressers?

Oh my goodness - the chemistry is EVERYWHERE!!!! The molecules that make up hair dyes, shampoos, the aromas, conditioners, gels, mousse, etc. are dreamed up and synthesized by a chemist in a lab somewhere.

PLUS lots of biology - and not just regarding the hair itself. Think about the skin on the client's scalp and face and neck. They could have sensitivities to certain chemicals in the product. OR may very well have a communicable disease (think lice, scabies, ringworm) that could be passed on to the hairdresser or other customers if appropriate sterile techniques for cleaning equipment are not used.

science is used a lot when you are coloring hair or doing any type of chemical to the hair...at a salon, you can get a cut, color, perm, shampoo, style, up-do, foils, eyebrows waxed, manicure, pedicure...lots of things
the science behind various chemicals and dyes used is handy so you don't burn someones scalp i guess.
hair straightening uses knowledge of disulphide bonds in hair. These bonds are broken in straightening which is why it smells like eggs when someone is getting their hair straightened.
