Why do hairdressers color your hair first, before cutting it?

I've just always wondered, wouldn't it make more sense to color your hair after cutting it to save hair dye? Why do hairdressers do it in this order? Thanks! Why do hairdressers color your hair first, before cutting it?
This can happen for several reasons:

1.Sometimes hair dye can cause split ends or even hair damage. If a stylist colors your hair first, they can see the true condition of your hair, and they can be sure to cut all the split ends. If they cut it first, and your hair splits from the coloring, the color won't look as good and you will need a trim or another haircut depending on how your hair reacts to the color.

2.Most stylists prefer to cut hair while it's wet. If you are getting a permanent color, the hair needs to be dry to be colored. If they cut your hair first, then washed it, you wouldn't be able to get a permanent color or highlights.

To sum it up: Hair looks better, shinier, healthier if the hair is colored first, then cut. This is also the way stylists are taught to do it in beauty school. If you ever have a stylist who wants to cut your hair before coloring it, do not let them touch your hair. You will most likely be unhappy with the results.

Hope this helps. Why do hairdressers color your hair first, before cutting it?
Because they usually wash your hair before they cut it anyway, so it would make sense to dye it first and then cut it after they wash it.

That, and it would suck (in my opinion) to get your hair cut and then have to sit around waiting for the dye. If you do the dye at the beginning, then do the hair cut, when it's dry you can leave. It just makes sense.
I am a hairstylist and a few of what the others have said is right.....color is applied to dry hair so it saves time to apply the color then wash it out and your hair is ready to be cut and then styled, if you do it the other way around-cut it and then color it, you will have to wash the hair to cut it, then blow dry it to apply the color, then wash it AGAIN and then style it. In certain cases, like when someone has very long hair and they want to cut it short, i will cut it first and then dry it to apply the color, it saves all that color from going to waste because you're going to cut it off anyway. It is actually ideal to cut the hair first, but it's usually not practical because in the salon time is money....
uhhh idk...maybe the ends of your hair would be more vulnerable to damage after you freshly cut it? That would be my guess, but what S said doesn't make much sense cuz you could just blowdry your hair after you cut it...
i think they do it in this order because hair dye damages your hair so they like to color then cut off what is damaged... rather then cutting off damaged then adding more. does that make sense? lol.
Probably because the dyeing might make your hair straighter, or more manageable so it would make your hair easier to cut.
because they cut your hair when it's wet, you can't put dye in wet hair...
