Any hairdressers out there who know about home hair colouring?

Hi

I have naturally dark blonde, extremely fine hair, and have bleached it most of my adult life. However, last year I put a bright red dye on it, and it looked awful! I didn't dare put bleach over it, so I dyed it dark brown, and have kept it that way until now. I now want to go back to being blonde, but am not sure if it is possible, as I can't afford to go to a salon to have it done. Are there products you can use at home to strip previous colours off (ie the red and brown)? And what would happen if I just went ahead and put bleach on it now?

Many thanks in advance!Any hairdressers out there who know about home hair colouring?
ok for a start please don't listen to the non-professional advice, the people that listen to them are the ones with burnt scalps and melted hair etc... you NEED to use a colour remover to remove the artificial pigment out that you have put in with the previous colours (colorfix by robert craig if you live in the USA http://www.merchantamerica.com/robertcra鈥?/a> or schwarzkopf igora phantom if you live in the UK) these are oxydizing agents which are different to so-called ';strippers'; that you buy OTC that are really just glorified bleach, you will more than likely end up with orange hair after this procedure (in a good way though) this will then leave a completely clean canvas for the bleach to be applied and it will only have to lift either 1 or 2 levels (depending upon how light you wish to go) which will be easy for the bleach hence it will be easier on the hair. after bleaching you are then free to tone, i will reccommend clairol born blonde toners as they are peroxide and ammonia free and are very cooling on the scalp after using bleach: http://www.clairolprofessional.com/dispe鈥?/a>Any hairdressers out there who know about home hair colouring?
I have used the Nutrisse pre lightener on someone with dyed dark brown hair before. It sends the colour to a bright orange shade (which can be a little frightening if you are not expecting it!) Once you're left with the orange shade, you put a normal hair colour on, the shade that you want to be. It would be best for you to pick a light brown to put over the orange, just for now and then next time you colour it go for a blonde shade.

Be aware though, if your hair still has a lot of red tones in it, from the previous red dye you used. That you may still end up with a very coppery colour once lightened to blonde. It really depends on how much red there is in your hair.

I would avoid bleach completely, it will damage your hair too much. Stick to pre lighteners and a normal colour over the top. You can also buy purple based toners that will tone down the orangeness and make it a more natural blonde.
if you use a home stripping kit it should work but if it goes red then what you want is an ash brown to lift the red out before reintroducing natural hair colours.

i just did it yesterday.

Good luck.

Hiya! It is best to get it done from a salon as doing it at home can result in an unwanted result. However, seeing as you can't afford to get it done at a salon.

The only way to strip hair colour is by using Bleach. Use 9% hydrogen peroxide mixed with powder bleach. It can be purchased from Sally's. Apply the mixture to the most resistant part of your hair, which is your mid lengths. Then your ends, and then your roots last (as heat from the scalp results in faster processing). When the colour is being removed it will go through different results. Black, brown, red, then orange, then blonde. Many people make the mistake of rinsing it off when it turns red or orange as it alarms them. But please keep it on. Rinse it off when you get the desired shade of blonde, then rinse off immediately. During processing time, keep a few wet pieces of cotton wool with you to keep taking off the bleach on small areas of the hair to check the how the colour is turning out.

Hope this helps!
its not possible if u die your hair red you need to let it grow out even if you have died it brown it wont take out the red pigment so u need have regular trims until the colour is out,if you are not sure the red is out do a test strand first ,if u dont you could end up with pink hair!! and that will be a disaster
