Is it best for hairdressers to cut hair when their customer's hair is wet or dry?

I'm going for a well needed hair cut and where I usually go they automatically wash your hair as it's included in the price, but the place I am now planning on going asks you if you'd like them to cut it when your hair is wet or dry.

I'm having quite a bit done, ends chopped off, lots of layers and maybe a fringe.

Which one is best and which one gets the best possible cut ie: when hair is wet or dry?

Thanks. Is it best for hairdressers to cut hair when their customer's hair is wet or dry?
hi sam , as a barber and cut womens hair i would say that wetting the hair makes it easy to handle but easy to damage.if i was cutting your fringe i would wet it but cut less as hair shrinks when drying.other long layers dont make a huge difference.short styles can be cut dry and long as well.my own view is that is a ploy to get u to stay in the chair longer and pay more.next time go with your bfriend to the barbershop and see if the barber can make as good a job at half the price. Is it best for hairdressers to cut hair when their customer's hair is wet or dry?
im a stylist and i cut hair both wet and dry. it really just depends on the desired hairstyle they are trying to achieve. it also really depends on the preference of the stylist. sometimes its easier to cut hair dry so you can already see the result without having to cut the whole head and drying...but when the hair is wet some people feel like they have more control. like it was already said..hair shrinks up a lot going from wet to dry so if i cut hair wet and they tell me how much they want off i always cut 1/2 inch to and inch less. then ill cut just the perimeter and see how they like it. you can always cut more off but you cant put it back when its gone so always ask a little less of what you really want. if they do ask you if you would like it cut wet or dry and you don't mind either way ask them what they would suggest and what they feel more comfortable doing.
Id say get it done when dry cause thats how the finished result is going to look....and if you want a bit more off you can see clearly how much. If your hair is wet it makes the hair heavier and weights it down, then as it dries it sorta ';spings'; back up into itself and will be shorter than you expected, which can be horrible lol
I would say wet. It's easier for them to cut
yes
